How to send a WhatsApp broadcast with buttons

A plain text broadcast asks customers to type. Add buttons — “Shop now”, “Yes, I'm interested”, “Call us” — and they answer with one tap. Buttons are part of the template, so you set them up once.

Short answer

In Lead Pattern create a template, add Quick reply, Visit website or Call phone buttons under the message body, set short labels and submit it for Meta's approval. Once approved, pick it in Broadcasts, choose your audience, map the variables and send or schedule. Quick-reply taps can start a bot.

Step by step

How to do it in Lead Pattern

1

Create the template

Templates → new template → name, category and language → write the body with variables like the customer's name.

2

Add buttons

Under the body, add Quick reply (a one-tap answer back to you), Visit website (opens a link — a product page, payment link or booking form) or Call phone.

3

Submit for approval

Meta reviews the buttons along with the rest of the template. Link and call buttons must point to genuine destinations.

4

Send the broadcast

In Broadcasts pick a segment or upload an Excel file, choose the approved template, map the variables, then send now or schedule.

5

Handle the taps

Quick-reply taps arrive in your inbox, and an automation can pick them up — for example send the price list on “Interested” and assign the chat to sales.

Which button to use

| Button | What the customer's tap does | Good for | |---|---|---| | Quick reply | Sends a short reply back to you | Yes / No, “Interested”, “Stop offers” | | Visit website | Opens a link | Product page, payment link, booking form | | Call phone | Dials your number | Customers who prefer to talk |

Tips

  • Use action words: *Track order*, *Book now*, *Call us*.
  • A few clear choices work better than many buttons.
  • Add a “Stop offers” quick reply to marketing broadcasts and connect it to a bot's Opt out step — opted-out customers are left out of future broadcasts automatically. How to collect opt-ins →
  • See who replied: each broadcast shows replied and no-response counts next to sent, delivered and read. Track broadcast results →

Questions people ask

Can I add buttons to a WhatsApp broadcast?+

Yes. Add the buttons to the template when you create it. Every broadcast that uses that approved template shows the buttons.

What kinds of buttons are there?+

Quick reply (a one-tap answer back to you), Visit website (opens a link) and Call phone (dials your number).

Can a bot reply when someone taps a button?+

Yes. When a customer taps a quick-reply button, an automation can pick up the answer and continue — for example route “Yes” and “No” down different paths.

Can I add buttons to an already approved template?+

Editing an approved template creates a new version that Meta reviews again.

Can I send a photo or video to a customer?+

Inside the 24-hour window after a customer messages you, you can attach an image, document, video or audio file to a normal reply in the inbox.
